(Philippians 2:5–11, NLT) “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
1. I WANT TO LIVE WITH THE SAME ATTITUDE JESUS HAD.
(Philippians 2:6, NLT) “Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.”
(Philippians 2:7, Message) “He set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human!”
(Jeremiah 12:3, NASB) “But You know me, O Lord; You see me; And You examine my heart’s attitude toward You.”
(Philippians 2:3–4, NLT) “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”
(Proverbs 23:7, NASB95) “For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you.”
(Philippians 4:5, GN) “Show a gentle attitude towards everyone. The Lord is coming soon.”
2. I WANT TO LOVE LIKE JESUS.
(Philippians 2:8, Message) “Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.”
(1 John 3:16, NLT) “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us.”
3. I WANT TO LIFT UP JESUS CONSTANTLY AS LORD OF MY LIFE.
(Philippians 2:10–11, CEV) “At the name of Jesus everyone will bow down, those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. And to the glory of God the Father everyone will openly agree, “Jesus Christ is Lord!”
(Romans 14:9–11, NLT) “Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead. …‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance praise to God.”
(2 Corinthians 4:5, NLT) “You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake.”
(Romans 10:9–10, NLT) “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”
“Let a man get right on the lordship of Christ, and he will be right all down the line on every issue. It means that the flagship of the fleet is the lordship of Christ, and if that ship leads all the other ships—church membership, fellowship, discipleship, stewardship, worship—will follow the flagship!” –Vance Havner
