Here’s the gospel: you’re more sinful than you ever dared believe; you’re more loved than you ever dared hope. –Tim Keller

(1 Peter 2:4–9, NLT) “You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. … They stumble because they do not obey God’s word…But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

  1. KNOW WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST.

(1 Peter 2:5) “And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple.”

(Galatians 2:20, NLT) “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

“It is when I turn to Christ, when I give myself up to His Personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.” –C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity,

(Psalm 95:3, NASB) “For the Lord is a great God And a great King above all gods,

(2 Corinthians 3:18, NASB) “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

(2 Corinthians 1:11, CEV) “Please help us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks for the blessings we receive in answer to all these prayers.

  1. WE WERE CHOSEN. “… you are a chosen people…

  1. WE ARE ROYAL PRIESTS. “You are royal priests…”

(1 Peter 2:5, NLT) “What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.

“The priest is the man who builds a bridge for others to come to God; and the Christian has the duty and the privilege of bringing others to the Savior whom he himself has found and loves.” –William Barclay

“Not only are we the freest of kings, we are also priests forever, which is far more excellent than being kings, for as priests we are worthy to appear before God to pray for others and to teach one another divine things.” –Martin Luther

  1. WE ARE CITIZENS OF A NATION. “… a holy nation …”

  1. WE ARE GOD’S SPECIAL POSSESSION. “… God’s very own possession”
