(1 John 3:4-6, ESV) Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.

1. Sin is serious

(1 John 3:4) Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

(Romans 5:12, NLT) When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

(Romans 6:23, ESV) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2. Jesus takes away our sins

(1 John 3:5) You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.

(Matthew 1:21, NLT) He will save His people from their sins.

(John 1:29, NLT) Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

(2 Corinthians 5:21, NLT) For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

3. Abide in Him

(1 John 3:6) No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.

Growthwork

1. Come and See

(John 1:45-46, NLT) Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.” “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” “Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied.

2. Let God Rewrite your story

(Matthew 11:28-30, NLT) Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

(2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

3. Go Out

(Mark 16:15, ESV) And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
