(Isaiah 9:6, NLT) For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
(1 Timothy 1:15, NLT) Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—and I am the worst of them all
(Luke 1:31, NLT) You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.
(2 Corinthians 5:18-20, GW) God has done all this. He has restored our relationship with him through Christ, and has given us this ministry of restoring relationships. In other words, God was using Christ to restore his relationship with humanity. He didn’t hold people’s faults against them, and he has given us this message of restored relationships to tell others. Therefore, we are Christ’s representatives, and through us God is calling you. We beg you on behalf of Christ to become reunited with God.
1. There is Power in His Name
(Luke 1:31, NLT) You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus
(Luke 1:30, NLT) “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God
2. There is Authority in His Name
(Philippians 2:9-11, NLT) Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Luke 1:32-33, NLT) He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end
(Matthew 28:18-20, NLT) I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
3. There is Salvation in His Name
(Matthew 1:21, NLT) And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins
(Isaiah 45:22, NLT) Let all the world look to me for salvation! For I am God; there is no other
(Hebrews 5:9, NLT) In this way, God qualified him (Jesus) as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him
(Luke 2:10, NLT) Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people
(Acts 4:12, NLT) There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved
(Hebrews 6:19a, NLT) This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
