(John 8:12, NLT) “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

1.  Jesus’ light is attractive

(Isaiah 9:2, NLT) “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light.  For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.”

(Philippians 2:15-16, GNT) You must shine among them like stars lighting up the sky, 16 as you offer them the message of life.

(Romans 5:8, NLT) “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

a.  Love others like Jesus loves you

(John 13:34-35, NLT) “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

b.  Love others by listening

“Being heard is so close to being loved that for the average person, they are almost indistinguishable.” -Theologian David Augsburger

(Proverbs 20:5, CEV) “Someone’s thoughts may be as deep as the ocean, but if you are smart, you will discover them.”

2.  Jesus’ light shines revealing needs

(Philippians 4:19-20, Message) “You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Our God and Father abounds in glory that just pours out into eternity.”

a.  Be generous

(Proverbs 11:25, NLT) “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”

(Acts 20:35, NLT) “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

(John 3:16a, NLT) “For God so loved the World that He gave…”

b.  Be an encouragement

(Hebrews 3:13, GW) Encourage each other every day while you have the opportunity. If you do this, none of you will be deceived by sin and become stubborn.”

  • Pray that God would make you an encourager.
  • Make encouragement a daily habit.
  • Be Specific in what you say.
  • Get started now.

3.  Jesus’ light shows us the way

(John 12:35, NLT) Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going.”

‍(John 8:12, NLT) “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

a.  Jesus’ light dispels the darkness

b.  Jesus’ light enables us to walk in the light
